Send all entries to cody-powers.d@connecticon.org.
VERY IMPORTANT: Please take some time to read the rules. There may be something that is
run differently at this convention from others that you have attended.
The deadline for pre-registering for the masquerade is June 9th, 2010. Please have all pre-registrations sent via email by that time.
Pre-registration is strongly suggested as once the entry limit has been reached, no other entries will be accepted. Download the form
at right, fill in with your information, then save and send back to the Cosplay Coordinator.
General Information
Check-in for the Masquerade will be Friday, July 9th, and Saturday, July 10th.
Registration will close at noon on Saturday or until all Masquerade spots have been filled and/or our time commitment to the
Masquerade has been reached. This check-in is for both those who have pre-registered
and those who would like to register at the convention. All groups that have pre-registered must cheeck-in during these times
or your spot will be given to another group. Music CDs will be accepted at the check-in desk and will only be accepted during check-in
times and not at the Masquerade itself (see music section for more information).
You must present a badge at check-in and at the event itself.
You MUST attend the Masquerade setup / seating / etc. There are things which will be covered there that you need to know before
participating (rules and skit order will be covered and it will run into the Masquerade itself). Anyone who does not show for the
cosplay rehearsal is considered a 'no-show' and will not be allowed in the Masquerade.
By registering, all Masquerade participants agree to let ConnectiCon use their images for promotional purposes, both photographs
and video. All participants will be required to sign a waiver at check-in acknowledging this. If you do not sign a waiver, you will not
be allowed to appear in the Masquerade.
Minors (those under 18 years of age) may not participate in the Masquerade unless given written permission by a legal guardian.
Forms are available above and will also be available at the check-in booth. Please bring a signed copy with you to the cosplay
check-in desk if you are a minor.
Masquerade Rules
- All characters must come from the following genres: fantasy, sci-fi, webcomics, anime, comics, and video games. If there are any
questions regarding whether your costume falls into one of these categories, please contac the Cosplay Coordinator.
- Please do not enter skits that were performed at a previous ConnectiCon Masquerade unless there has been some major changes and
it has been cleared with the Cosplay Coordinator.
- There will be two divisions:
- Adult (13 and over as of July 9th, 2010)
- Youth (12 and under as of July 9th, 2010)
- Skits must be three minutes or under. Going beyond this limit is grounds for disqualification. Please keep this in mind when choosing music and incorporate that time limit into your skit music CD.
- The number of people allowed on stage at any given time is 8. This is for your safety as the stage is not large enough to accommodate more than 8 people.
- Parents are allowed (and encouraged) to be backstage with any participants age 14 and under and especially for participants age 12 and under.
- Please do not wear any messy substance that may get on another participants costume. Any body make-up or paint should not come off in casual contact.
- Do not bring anything on stage that you cannot take off with you. This includes confetti, rose petals, etc. In addition keep in mind the time limit includes the setting up and removal of props with the timer beginning when the skit participants enter the stage area.
- There will be no electrical hookups on stage so please keep your costumes self contained.
- Please keep your costumes to a reasonable size- 8 ft or 250 pounds. Make sure your costume can make it across the stage, get through the doorway without clotheslining anyone, getting stuck, etc.
- The weapons policy and convention center rules also apply here. This is for your and others' safety.
- No fire, flash powder, lasers, explosives or open flame of any kind will be allowed. Electronic flashes will be permitted provided that you notify the Masquerade Coordinator in advance, and it must be announced in your MC introduction to protect those who may be affected by the flashing lights. Strobe lights are not permitted.
- Keep all content to PG-13 and under. This is a family friendly convention. No swearing, explicit gestures, nudity, etc. Use good judgment; if it would get you arrested in public it doesn't belong here.
- You must enter and exit the stage using the areas designated by the masquerade staff. No jumping onto or off of the stage is allowed. Failure to follow these rules will result in disqualification.
- We have the right to cancel any performance at any time.
Music / Sound
- The sound specifications are still being addressed. However there is a strong possibility that prerecorded dialogue will not be mandatory as there will be
microphones on stage.
- Those who wish to submit music must do so during the check-in times on Friday and Saturday.
- Acceptable music formats are .mp3 and .cda files. Please check that your music works after burning it onto a CD!! We have had problems with this in the past and if your music is unable to be played you will have to make alternative arrangements.
- Your CD must have your group leaders name, your entry # (will be included with the response email for pre-registered groups) and the name of the skit on it. Also please make sure that the CD that is used for the Masquerade only has the skit music file on it. Do not hand us a CD and ask us to play track 45. That is not the tech crews responsibility. In addition please make sure your music follows the 3 minute limit as well. If it does not then it will be faded out at the end. If you'd like the music cut off please make sure the CD incorporates that.
- If you'd like the MC to read a short introduction (35 words or less) to your skit please include this information with your entry. Also the MC is not allowed to read anything during your skit; only prior to it.
If you break any equipment or cause any damage to the facility you are responsible for paying to replace it. Be aware of cords, curtains, screens, etc to prevent any damage.
Lastly if you have any special requests such as going first or last in the masquerade because of large props, etc. please email the Cosplay Coordinator. Keep in mind not all requests can be fulfilled but we will do our best to accommodate you.
