So… Why blend with Video Games this year?

Well obviously the decision was made, and everything is all set up and planned out, but I was just wondering (and figured I’d toss up a thread to see how the other artists are feeling about the way the Artist Colony seems to be set up this year)

Why the decision to blend AC with the Video Game room?

I should state that the Artists’ Colony is not in the Video Gaming room. They are separate function spaces. If you consider the large exhibit hall to be the same space, then you should also consider that it now shares space with the Dealers’ Room and Online Media Guest Hall. It is not a random placement, and none of the above are in the same room.

Ah ok. I didn’t suggest it was random placement, I was just curious as to why specifically that setup. It’s nice that the Online Media Guest Hall is it’s own section this year. (and perhaps I should have re-phrased that to clarify that I was wondering about the overall hall - I realize each section within should count as it’s own room)

Where is the Dealer’s room to be in relation to the room as a whole? I admit I’m having difficulty remembering the setup of the floor so hopefully when the maps are up I’ll have a clearer reference of what is where. I might be mixing up two of the overall room plans.

^^ Sorry I do feel like I am full of questions!

Well correct me if I’m wrong CTCon staffers, the dealers room in relation to the Artist Alley would be to the LEFT of the floor plan that is/was posted. My question is will the wall division be open or closed between to two large spaces?
I’m giving the placement of the AA to the video game room the benefit of the doubt. It might give the artists a chance to attract the attention of people who would normally spend most of their time in the video game room. My own nephew has been known to get lost in convention video game areas for DAYS.

I’m hoping to actually see some of the gamers too ^^ I know how they have a tendency to live in the game room for days XD

At least the artists will be close if they get out to wander a bit hehe.

Though we expect large crowds in Exhibit Hall B this year, we hope that it will not cause traffic flow issues (another reason for the booth style spaces- it will allow people refuge from the aisles.) We’ve already discussed having extra volunteers to handle lines that may occur at the bag check and Dealer’s Room.

All the maps should be available soon. They are currently being linked to our event information- when you click on a function room on the maps, it will bring up a list of events occurring in that space throughout the weekend. It’s pretty nifty.

There are lots of reasons for the switch in location, aside from requests to be in the Exhibit Halls. As far as the placement goes, we had to move gaming and the AC from the upstairs ballrooms because Main Events and Panels & Workshops needed to expand. We decided to have all of the vendor areas in one Exhibit Hall for traffic and convenience. Video Gaming is in the same hall because of the noise level- we wanted to keep it away from the quieter tabletop gaming area.

Unfortunately, while the CCC is quite large, it also has a limited amount of rooms, so hopefully we can continually reshuffle things as the convention grows. Either way, this will all be an experiment for future years. Hopefully everyone benefits from the changes.

I’m definitely looking forward to those maps. Having never been, I’m very eager to see what the complete layout is.
