Security issues (ie, shoplifting, theft) at Artist’s Alley?

Hey guys,

I’ve always wanted to attend a convention but just never got a chance, so if I manage to secure a space in the AC this year, it’ll be both my first time attending AND my first time selling at a con.

Do you other experienced sellers find that there is a big problem with people palming stuff, shoplifting, etc? I’m wondering whether I should bring locking cases for my jewelry and chain my cash box to the table… grin

I don’t mean to sound like I don’t trust con-goers as a group, I just don’t want to be naive, either. We sell keychains and necklaces and I imagine it’s going to be a very crowded, very busy environment.

Thanks!

Normally, Theft isn’t a huge deal but keep your cash box/cash purse on you at all times as well as any laptop/phone you have. I heard alot of horror stories of those being grabbed. Any merchandise isnt nearly as valuable as the cash box.

Having a Friend/Companion there to watch your booth helps, if push comes to shove, ask the Artist’s Alley staff and we can see about getting a Volunteer to watch your space while you’re away..

Aren’t you going to tell me to change something, too?.
No, I just want my dress to be cool.
Do you not like the color?.
The color’s fine, just make it look cooler.
Do you not like the shape?.
The shape’s fine, just make the whole thing you know, cooler….
It needs to be about 20% cooler.

Thanks!

I’ve gotten my tax permit from the state. Well, the temporary one for now.

I’m super paranoid about missing the registration window with only 32 slots available. Is it first come first serve? I’d imagine going from 190+ to 32 means that they’re going to disappear within a few minutes of registration opening….

Our Colony in the past never sold out as fast as the typical artist colony, but you are right that this year may be different. We will put up advance notice before opening registration up, so don’t worry too much.

Also, it seems that at least a few people are doubling up for tables, so that’ll help your chances a bit. We’ll have a few staff members available for the opening of artist alley, like last year, that can quickly answer questions via email.

Is it a first-come, first-serve arrangement or does seniority or staff discretioin play in?

I’m really, really eager for a slot. We’ve never done a con before and we’re amazingly excited.

No such thing as a dumb question, except the questions you don’t ask :D
