yup there’s a movie coming out.
there’s trailers and everything already. xD
I started reading and I even own the first 2 but it’s very slow at the beginning and eventually the fan base ruined it for me.
“EDWARD! I LOVE YOU!!1!!1!!1”
I have heard that some of the fan base for it is REALLY BAD ( Present company excluded until i’ve actually met you )

Re: Twilight
Have you guys considered having the Con Staff set up a book release during the Con like they did with Harry Potter a few years back? I think it was Waldenbooks that came out with a bunch of copies to sell to Con Kiddies. Was quite fun!

Re: Twilight
Twilight really dissapointed me, I heard how amazing it was, and it definitely did not live up to what everyone was saying about it.

I admit, it’s not one of the best series, but it is still good. Personally, the books starting losing their appeal as they came out, but overall it’s an ok series. I agree, they hype makes it seem like one of the best, but it really all depends on you tastes.

Re: Twilight
I mainly found the writing to be horrid. My first encounter with Twilight was when a friend of mine grabbed a book from the counter, opened it up to a random page, and told me to read it aloud.
After I read about a paragraph, I stopped, looked at her, and say “How did crap like this get past an editor? I’ve read trashy romance novels with a better sense of the English language”
Then she showed me the cover, and thus I discovered twilight.
Re: Twilight
XDD ~ I don’t even remember discovering it. It was back when people weren’t as familiar with it as they are now. I thought the first one was ok if you’re bored or want something to pass the time (as I did), but after that it just went downhill. It was hard to stomach even the third one, and I hardly finished the last one. Basically, I only finished it because I wanted to see how it ended. Plus, I didn’t want to be a hyprocrite or something. Now, I can officially say I didn’t like it after reading it all ~ XDD

Re: Twilight
I’m going to resurrect this topic because I just finished the series recently. I’m glad I didn’t hear of it until after the last book came out. I wanted to be done with it.
The writing style is quite bad. Stephenie Meyer wasn’t a writer when she wrote this book. Go figure! It gets better by the last book, but you definitely don’t read it to appreciate the language, just the light plot and characters. But you also have to consider that it is written in the first person, who is a teenager, so it almost works. I was definitely entertained by this series and I love the characters, which is more than I can say for a lot of snoozers in the same genre, so it’s worth it for some light reading. It’s definitely for the young adult section, though, unlike Harry Potter, which is able to transcend age, in my opinion.
The movies should be fun. I read the first book after seeing the movie because I wasn’t working at the time, but I’m looking forward to New Moon this November and Eclipse next June(??) Just having Chris Weitz (Golden Compass) directing over Catherine Hardwicke should make it better than the first. But they’re changing director’s again after the second movie. And who knows about the last one, they haven’t given any info yet. I hate when there’s no continuity between series films.

Hahaha, that’s as far as my experience with it goes too. I think the word “twilight” is one of those buzz words of the decade much as “turbo” was used on everything in the 80’s.

Life is like a ride at an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it, you think it’s real, because that’s how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up/down and it has thrills/chills. And it’s fun, for a while. When you’ve been on the ride for a long time, you begin to question: ‘Is this real? Or is this just a ride?’ And other people come back to us and they say ‘Hey! Don’t worry, don’t be afraid - ever - because… this is just a ride.’

When I hear Twilight, I automatically think of Twilight Temple, an awesome dungeon in Perfect World.

[quote author=“Cels”]I’ve heard all the hype, but when I went to read it, I was sorely dissapointed.
The writing style was just so.. bland XP I was hoping for a lot more than I got.
You know, I’ve heard the same from all of my friends. My librarian actually said it was one of the worst books she’s ever read but it was so bad that she had to finish it. this is exactly why i didn’t even try to read it, i’m good w/ lord of the rings and harry potter X’D

Re: Twilight
Ohhhh boy… I just had to wander into this thread…
I have to say, I decided to read Twilight because of all the hype surrounding it (hey, it worked out in the case of Harry Potter)... and afterward I was left scratching my head, wondering what all of the fuss was about. I agree that the writing was pretty mediocre, but I’ve actually seen worse, so that wasn’t my main problem. My main issue with these books is the way that Edward and Bella’s relationship is portrayed as a perfect example of true love, and how Edward is made out to be such a great romantic hero by most fans. However, all I could see when I read the books was that Edward was super-controlling and overprotective to the point of obsession, spent most of his time stalking Bella, and either made her decisions for her or got extremely angry until she’d give him his way about things. And Bella pretty much fell to pieces whenever Edward wasn’t around and had absolutely no interests outside of Edward and the rest of the Cullens. Yeah… this doesn’t even seem healthy to me, let alone like true romance.
I don’t know, perhaps I am an idiot and have missed something crucial in the books, but I don’t get why everyone loves Edward so much. (But Robert Pattinson, on the other hand… <3 ) And I’m honestly not trying to bash the books or anything, I’m just really confused. <!—s:-\—>
<!—s:-\—> Okaaaay, I think I’m gonna stop now… *dodges pitchforks* XD
Re: Twilight
[quote author=“Skydancer”]Oh, I should also state for the record that I disagree with the fans. The movie was completely like the book. I’m always impressed when they use actual lines from books, and the movie used enough to be considered close. And they didn’t add or take away too much. I haven’t seen the deleted scenes yet, but I’m betting they intended to use a lot more.

In terms of words that I think are overused WAY too much by people today who can’t grasp the real meaning behind them, I wouldn’t mind them so much if people would use a thesaurus and come up with new names for them.
I know soul mate is two words but that one really bugs me since its been used by all my once married now divorced friends, so I had to include it on my top list. lol
