Patiently waiting for the Artists Alley to open up so I can get a booth, but my friends who will be going with me, want to register before the 25th to get the 40$ deal, they can’t register until they have a hotel, (which i will only get if i am guaranteed a booth) so the holdup is on me, why is artist alley registration not up and will it be up before the 25th when the normal admission prices increase. can anyone help me out with this? I am stuck in a rut, I can’t buy anything until I have my booth!

Is it just you and your friends working the booth? Because two memberships are included as part of the booth price. Additionally, you can add up to two “artist colony associate” badges per booth, which cost $35, which is cheaper than the regular membership at the moment of $40. These memberships can be bought with the booth, and do not change price as we get closer to the convention.

If there are more than four people in your group, those over the associate limit could buy their badges now, since you cannot have more than two associate badges. (IE they would need regular membership)

Hello!

I wonder if anyone could give us an estimate as to when Artist Colony registration will open?  In years past, we’d be registered by February - just getting a bit nervous and antsy.

I’ve sent an email via the CTCon website and have not heard any reply - this was a few months ago.  If we could get some communication - that would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks so much,

Jessy

We cannot give an exact estimate, although we haven’t had registration open in Feb for at least the past two years. We do hope to get it online earlier than last year, and are working currently to get things ready to open.

We will post an advance announcement to not only our site and forums, but to Facebook when we are ready to open.

Not yet, but we are in the final stages of getting things setup. I can say that we are definitely working overtime to get everything all set.(Sleep? What is this you speak of?) We hope to have it up real soon, so keep your eye on the forum and/or facebook.

No problem smile It’s a new system this year, so it takes time to write all the code out and get everything all set. Hopefully, if it works this year, we’ll have the program on file to make registration go along easier in upcoming years.*Fingers crossed*

I realize that the system will hopefully/possibly be useful for subsequent years, but might you guys be over-engineering a system for taking 32 registrations? It’d be faster and easier to get an 800 number and put it on a cell phone.

I mean, I’m a programmer, and I’m all for building toys, but this must be some system you guys are building. smile No offense intended.

If you weren’t so late in the game already I’d offer to volunteer some hours if it would help, but honestly if you’re mostly done I’d probably just slow you down.

It would be, if that was the only system being built. Problem is, we are also building the main system, which process over 8,000 registrations per year, and tracks them through subsequent years.
The artist alley system should go quickly with the groundwork in place, but we only have so many hands (Mainly volunteers who have full time jobs beyond the convention), and programming the systems has to be prioritized.  I can’t give an exact date out publicly, but we do hope to have it up relatively soon, and are working on the last few stages currently.

I’ll jump in on this since I am at the forefront of coordinating with our developer and approving the new system. Hence why I haven’t been around. Thanks to Cels for holding down the fort. wink

I gave our developer the final updates yesterday so, barring final tests, we will be ready to go soon. We still have to write up instructions and send everyone information about registering with the new system.

This system is pretty complex. We’ve built new interactive maps for each room of the convention- eventually when scheduling is finished, you will be able to click on the rooms of the convention center and view schedules of events within that space. The AC will also have cool features- you will be able to click on the map and hover over each space to view artists and their studio information (so start thinking about what kind of information you want there.)

The registration process will work similarly. You will be able to fill out all of your information (the form is quite lengthy, so we tried to make the process as quick as possible) and then go to the map and select a space. There is a lot more to setting this up than you’d think, but from here on it will make the registration process smooth and fair for the artists.

We were ready to do this last year, but it could not interact properly with the old website, so we had to wait and then start over with a new map for 2012. I hope to post screen shots of this soon.
