What to Expect
So, this will most likely be my first time at Connecticon so I’m wondering what to expect…
I’ve gone to Anime Boston before and I know that that’s a lot bigger than this but I was wondering if anyone could help compare the two or just tell me what they’ve experianced or thought from previous years…
Re: What to Expect
I’m mostly behind a table at conventions but I do get out a little.
The major difference that I find comparing CTCon to other convention is CTCon has always felt more like a community than a crowd of people. At CTCon you find many of the same things like a dealers room, artist alley (be sure to visit) and panels, however the atmosphere is lighter more communal, if that makes any sense.
Also comparing CTCon to Anime Boston is QUIT right. CTCon ISN’T an Anime convention specifically, it’s a multi genre convention. This means you’ll see anime, manga, american comics, games (video and table top), SciFi, Fantasy, Steampunk, Cyberpunk, furries, lions, tigers and pikachu’s oh my! I also notice while other convention are also frequented by families CTCon seems MORE family friendly. I normally have mom’s and daughters, fathers and sons, EVEN GRANDPARENTS AND GRAND KIDS come to my table. I see some parent MORE into the convention then their own kids.
It all mixes together to be a good convention over all. It’s not super big, it’s not small, but its comfortable.

Re: What to Expect
That sounds pretty cool. ^^
I’ve wanted to attend Connecticon for while and this year seems like it’ll finally be my first year.
I’ve only been to Anime Boston as well and I’m kind of excited to expirience the smaller con.

Re: What to Expect
I’ve done Port Con in Maine but that was such a jump from AB I almost couldn’t enjoy myself (19000 people to 2000 it a big jump) so I’m excited for Connecticon because it’s still smaller but not as small. I hope to see you there!
Re: What to Expect
I haven’t gone to Connecticon last year, but did the year before, for at least the third year in a row. Compared to Boston, there’s alot more room in the convention center. If you are a people person, I think it’s easier to meet people as there’s more room for people to just hang out. The number of people make each con that different and I’m sure you’ll have a great time.
Re: What to Expect
Yeah to echo what is said, it’s smaller than AB, but the multi-genre aspect means you get the sci fi fans showing up, plus all the webcomic people which means it’s a different sort of animal. Plus the level of cosplay is still high and you’ll see cosplays you wouldn’t at an AB. The con center is large enough to move around in, but small enough that people can be found et cetera, plus it’s harder to miss random events. Plus usually lines are shorter, though of course a masquerade line will always be a masquerade line. <!—s:)—>
