ConnectiCon 2009 Highlights
Re: ConnectiCon 2009 Highlights
GOOD:
—The convention was really fun for me and I had an exciting time there. It was the first year I tried a steampunk costume and it was fun to be there with the entire steampunk cadre of folks. Though I didn’t have time to finish my tesla gun I still felt invited to the whole affair and didn’t feel out of place at all.
—All the fantastic people that kept giving me water bottles to drink out of. Roaming around in my Nemesis costume was labor intense and I was sweating godawful in it but people just kept giving me water and helping me take off or put on my mask. I know I gave a few other people the ‘bro fist’ when I saw how much worse their costumes were when it came to staying hydrated.
— The people I met were fantastic. Peter who was Abe Lincoln, female Sasuke in black who I talked to in the artist alley, Wesker and Co who I hung with on sunday, 9 tail fox guy who I can’t remember his name, Lone Wanderer in Talon Company armor and a dozen others who I just kicked back and talked to was great. It’s the only con I could just break that social barrier and chat with people I dont even know and not feel awkward. I got some good costuming tips and offered some out while talking about genre’s and such.
—I had a blast chasing (walking briskly) some S.T.A.R.S. RE cosplayers through the con. It was pretty fun to do it was all impromptu which made it that much more funnier.
BAD
—CT Tax Gestapo becoming money hungry and pawing at the limited funds the artists in the alley and demanding they get their portion of hearts and blood for their sun god.
—The jerk who sat next to me at the Masq and bashed every costume coming on stage or made fun of the people who didn’t look absolutely perfect in their cosplays. This guy has a well known reputation apparently but I’m going to forgo mentioning him for the sake of respect for the convention and the forum. Eventually the staffers will deal with him accordingly we he steps out of line but he’s that cospler sterotype which mars all of us collectively.
— The guy at the rave who was sexually harrassing girls. I heard a lot of stories about him already but I should point out that the convention is not at fault or the staff members. He was banned from the convention previously but snuck into the rave with a stolen badge. The failure falls to the hotel which would not eject him dispite the complains leveled against him since he had paid already. Most of the girls were too scared to complain about him for fear he would find out and come after them. He was ejected from the rave when some artist alley person reported him to hotel security. ( In no way does this reflect on the convention as I point out it is the fail of the hotel so staff of the con are not to blame]

Re: ConnectiCon 2009 Highlights
This was my first year at the ConnectiCon, and I have to say it was Awesome! Most definitely going back next year. The highlights for me were the panel discussions, playing Gears with everyone, and the dealer room. OMG we had such a blast! Congrats on a fantastic job well done! <!—s:)—>

Re: ConnectiCon 2009 Highlights
I had a ton of fun this year, mostly because of the kind and awesome people I met/hung out with. I also thought the Lolita Fashion Show was awesome!
I just have a question… why (on Sunday) was it suddenly not ok to bring backpacks into the Dealer’s room?

Re: ConnectiCon 2009 Highlights
Hey all! Just wanted to thank everyone that stopped by the Radbu Productions/Near & Far table in Artist’s Colony and visited with us or bought a copy of Captain Drew, Unhappy Gran’ma or one of our T-Shirts! The Cake/Pie shirt seemed to be a big hit. <!—s:)—>
<!—s:)—>
I also wanted to thank the ConnectiCon volunteers that helped me unload and load my car before and after the con. You guys were lifesavers! <!—s:D—>
<!—s:D—>
The tax stuff was a big surprise, but one I saw coming for a while. At least the con confirmed it wasn’t a scam! The guy that was at our table seemed very shady.
Sheena, I heard there was a theft at some point and they were wary of more getting stolen. That’s just what I heard though, can’t verify that!
Hope to see you all next year at ConnectiCon 2010!

Someone got blacklisted for shoplifting. We were trying to protect the dealers, especially considering the amount of people in there on Sunday. Didn’t make things easy for us.

Ahh, alright, I understand a little bit more… but isn’t it much easier to steal something with purses? You can just lean over and slip something in. Sorry, I’ve never actually stolen anything before, but someone I know said it’s much easier than opening up a backpack and throwing it in XD

They were checking purses over a certain size.

Re: ConnectiCon 2009 Highlights
This was my fourth sequential year at ConnectiCon, and I noticed that the economy hit hard in the Dealer’s Room. It was upsetting, but expected. For the most part, I enjoyed the convention very much. I liked my cosplay more this year, because it was more recognizable, and people wanted pictures all over the place.
I did run into a few people whom I didn’t like very much: For example, a creepy staff member who had previously been a volunteer. I avoid him on a yearly basis.
-A dealer who nearly rammed the back of my head with a big wooden display. I’m sure it was accidental, but I didn’t even get an apology. <!—s:(—>
<!—s:(—>
- The king of all smut. Who wanted a hug, but still creeped me out. I’M NOT LEGAL, alright? He didn’t get the point.
A lot of the vendors were really nice people though, and I made friends with quite a few of them. (Some who I could not stop staring at. They were just soooo cute.) Having a Dealer’s Badge makes things a lot better at the Con. I get to watch the set up and tear down, and stare in amazement.
All in all, you can count on me being back again next year, for the problems I had were based solely on the people who attended, not the Convention itself.
Re: ConnectiCon 2009 Highlights
This was our third year, but our first time being all legitimate and vendory (vs just being GMs).
We had a blast hanging out with all of the cool people who came to our booth
And running Giant Board Games was a lot of fun too (though I didn’t get away from the booth much to see how it was going).
Hi.
I had something that I wanted to comment on….but I do not know if I could really call it a bad or a good…... <!—s:-\—>
<!—s:-\—>
Basically…........I went into the main event “Art the hypnotist” thinking it was going to be an actual hypnotism demonstration…........but…..I slowly realized that it was an act….........which bothered me, cause I sacrificed a really interesting panel to stay and see his show….........
people kept laughing at what was happening…....and I was just like….....I came for hypnotism…...not people pretending to be hypnotized…..and not very convincingly either….
So….I guess…..maybe my point would be…...PLEASE.....could the descriptions of the programming…...be more helpful in the future….as to what will actually be occurring…..not a vague, “trying to make you want to know more” kind of description…..cause I was sad that I missed the panel that I knew was going to be fun, to see a show that was sort of claiming to be something else…............ <!—s:’(—>
<!—s:’(—> (no hard feelings….but…...just a suggestion for the future….)
Thanks.
I was part of this hypnotist act (I had the fox ears and tail) and I was never acting I promise you. Even now things are fuzzy to me in places and I watched a video of 90% of it that my friend recorded :\ When I watched it though, one of the other people seemed suspicious which confused me :\ Unless it only seemed that way… I had originally gone because I was a skeptic and wanted to see people “hypnotized” up close (sorta one of those “hey look that person didn’t fall or asleep” or “hey that person is looking around still” type things), and the next thing I knew I was sitting in front of everybody with a ridiculous picture lol I would still like to go back and watch other people hypnotized though. I am still confused about the entire thing :\

Just be aware that that person’s comment was about LAST year’s show.
