This one hurts:

Barbara Billingsley - 94. She played June Cleaver, Beaver’s mom, on Leave it to Beaver.
She was the quintessential TV mom. God rest her soul.

Re: In Memoriam This Past Week

So by now you’ve likely heard the news of Elisabeth Sladen (aka Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctors Companion) has died of cancer. She was 63.

Since I’m no good at drawing I figured I’d paint a mental image as a tribute.
Picture if you will a tribute to Sarah Jane Smith a beloved companion of The Doctor.

A floating casket hovers at one end of a long room. To each side are flowers from every corner of the universe, some glowing, some singing, some changing colours.
Faithfully standing guard to one side is the robotic dog K-9 with his head bowed.
A central isle reaches to the back of the room with mourners also from every corner of the universe and beyond paying their respects. Friends, allies, even new and old enemies.
In the front row weeps the children of Sarah Jane’s more recent adventures. They can hardly believe their mentor is gone. Luke, her adopted son sits on the left side of the isle in front, dressed all in black with Sarah Janes sonic lipstick folded prayerfully in his hands.
Along either side of the isle contingents of Dalek’s and Cybermen with weapons lowered in respect show they too morn the loss of a worthy adversary.
In the 2nd row from the front behind the children sit The Doctors other companions who weep at the loss of one of there own. While a subtle rivalry was present among them they now come together to morn the loss of one of their own, a sister, mother, friend to them all.
Further back sit other aliens from around the cosmos and time that have either been friends, allied or sworn enemy of Sarah Jane. They now sit in silence to show there respect to such a unintentionally powerful woman.
In the back of the room and along the sides stand members of U.N.I.T. with full honour guard to the left and right of the room. Also in the back stands Captain Jack Harkess, at attention eyes fixed at the casket wishing he could trade places, to give back to the world a more worth hero then he believe he could ever be.
And where is the doctor? Where is the TARDIS? The TARDIS rests behind the casket, it’s lights dimmed, but a soft hum of it’s engines sound as if to carry Sarah Jane Smith one last time. The Doctor, the man who changed her life, the man that was changed by her. He stands before his time machine, his hands spread out on Sarah Janes coffin with his head bowed and a tear drips from his face. His sonic screw driver resting on top of the casket blinking in Morse Code words that he dared never to utter to anyone ....... ” I love you Sarah Jane Smith”

Re: In Memoriam This Past Week

Officially announced this week
NASA has announced the end to attempting to re-establishing communications with the Mars Rover “Spirit”
So let us mark this day by noting the passing of a great robotic explorer. While not a person, it is still a loss worthy to note.
Spirit was a credit to robots everywhere and will be missed. It spent 6 years exploring and furthering our knowledge of Mars. Spirits sister rover, Opportunity continues to function and explore, though be it alone now, on the surface.
Spirit will not be forgotten and a new rover “Curiosity” is set to be launch in November to carry on the exploration of Mars.
