Yup ... here I go again .... showing my age ..

The Voltron series is now on Hulu.com (30 eps)

I remember watching this show as a kid and collecting the action figures ... with the exception of “Robotech” This was one of my first Anime series I watched. .....  And now I hear they are remaking this? Will American companies ever stop republishing stuff ?

Mine too. The remake was from a few years back but they only finished the pilot I believe and it never aired. I know that they are making a live action film but that got stuck in development hell. They also had a 3-D CG Voltron which looks pretty choppy by today’s standards of animation but that got cancelled after a few episodes.

Much better is the original Beast King Golion anime from which it was spun off from which was released here last year (I think I made a thread on it somewhere) which although has the same animation has slightly different dialogue, music, names, and sound effects. Its still pretty much 90% the same series but a few episodes are radically different and is kind of like a Voltron uncensored thing.

On one of the DVD’s they mentioned how originallly they wanted to create Voltron from Dairugger (or what later become known as Veichle Force here) instead but there was a mix up and they thought the Lion series was more interesting to use after watching it. So Voltron is basically half Golion, half Dairugger in terms of footage even though the Japanese shows had nothing to do with one another except they had the same animation team, I believe. Then there was also Albegas which they planned to turn into Gladiator Voltron but that never got off the ground because Veichle Voltron tanked so they went with a second season of Lion episodes instead of taking a chance on something new.

I still prefer Lion/Golion over Veichle/Dairugger in the end but I never hated VV like some people did I knew. I guess its like comparing Star Wars to Star Trek where Lion is more of a space-fantasy with sorcery and magic stuff that’s plot driven whereas Veichle is more science-fiction with space and hardware stuff as well as being character driven.

Although it is pretty funny how one of the main reasons people like Lion better is due to the transformation which is crazy when you think that people find five robotic lions forming into one giant super robot is more convincing than 15 some odd machines forming into one.

Life is like a ride at an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it, you think it’s real, because that’s how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up/down and it has thrills/chills. And it’s fun, for a while. When you’ve been on the ride for a long time, you begin to question: ‘Is this real? Or is this just a ride?’ And other people come back to us and they say ‘Hey! Don’t worry, don’t be afraid - ever - because… this is just a ride.’

It was probably on Cartoon Network because I think they used to show it on there back in 2000 or so. I think they do still show Voltron on there really late at night/early morning.
