Series Recommendations, PURIIZU?

So…my boyfriend & I watch anime/series in general in this crazy daily marathon-ish type way…so we get through a small series in about a week! We’re looking for a lineup! Mostly of FOOD based anime or something funky like Midori no Hi. We like COMEDY, atypical, weird, unique art, etc.

We’re NOT into Naruto (sorry.), Deathnote, Bleach, yaoi/yuri, typical romance, too dramatic

Things we’ve watched: Hagaren, Yakitate!! Japan (this is our absolute FAVORITE), Samurai Champloo, Ghibli movies, Azumanga Daioh, lots of other I can’t remember and currently ending Beck MCS.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated! Thanks a LOT in advanced!

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, or the other seasons (Zoku), if you didn’t watch it already.
It’s a comedy about a Middle School teacher, named Nozomu Itoshiki, who constantly attempts suicide, and also constantly shouts; “ZETSUBOU SHITA!”, which means “I’m in despair”, in reference to the title, which means ‘Goodbye Mr. Despair’, ‘So long, Depair Teacher’, or whatever the real translation is. c:

Re: Series Recommendations, PURIIZU?

Thanks guys!!

I’ve heard of Chobits & Ouran HS Host Club so I might look into those. I think the Melancholy of Haruhi Su…something is popular as well? Though give me some opinions of it.

I’ve never heard of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei or Zoku? I’ll look into those. Thanks a lot!

I was going to recommend D.Gray-Man but that one’s rather dark. I saw someone say Ouran and that one is good but it’s all romance and has some fake bl in it. But it’s a good series and funny so try it out. Chobits has some romance in it but it’s comedy as well. I don’t know any food ones though, sorry. Black Cat and DN Angel weren’t bad.

Re: Series Recommendations, PURIIZU?

ARIGATO minnsan!

Heard of…D- Grayman, dunno what it’s about though. It seems to be one of the more “serious” sorts. I’ll check it out though. *I’ve seen some characters…though I don’t know who they are other than what anime they’re from.

Oh DN Angel! I’ve read parts of the manga and heard the anime was sort of…slow. I remember this from my childhood though XD *feeling old* And Chobits. Speaking of Chobits…how does one say it?! I’ve never been able to figure it out…is it CHObits or chabits?

AHAHAH RANMA 1/2!! How legendary. I’ll look into it. Surprisingly, it’s something I haven’t watched yet. Super old school XD

I think I’ll have to watch CCS in its entirety again. I don’t recall making it to the end! This is one of my ultra-favorite series though!

I haven’t heard of stay/fate night, hidamari sketch x365, lucky star, gurren lagenn though…will check those out.

Thanks again everyone! Currently, we’re in the middle of Tiger & Dragon (live action dorama) since the BF wanted to take a break from animation.

Re: Series Recommendations, PURIIZU?

If you like Ghibli movies you should check out A Tree Of Palme.  It’s got some comedy but is mostly serious, though it’s very Miyazaki-esque.

When you say unique art the first thing to come to mind is Gankutsuou-The Count of Monte Cristo… it has an incredibly unusual look.  I seem to recall Le Portrait de Petit Cossette being unusual looking too.  However, both are serious.

Comedies:

Golden Boy
Cromartie High School
Furi Kuri (aka FLCL or Fooly Cooly)
Excel Saga
Panda-Z (I saw this late night at AB and thought it was hysterical.  Upon buying the DVD I’ve found it helps to be sleep-deprived.  Or high.  Still, very weird and unique).
Full Metal Panic has alot of humor for an action series, and they made a comedy spin-off called Full Metal Panic fumoffu!
Peacemaker (aka Peacemaker Kurogane) is another action series that is much more comedy than action from what I’ve seen.

I saw the first few discs of Great Teacher Onizuka (aka GTO) at CTCon ‘05 and seem to recall it being pretty funny.

Re: Series Recommendations, PURIIZU?

Another series that should be recommended (I apologize if someone mentioned it) would be:

Cowboy Bebop
Knockin’ on Heavens Door (Cowboy Bebop movie)

Its one of the awesome classics that have shown that anime can be bad-ass

And about D. Gray Man….haven’t seen a lot of the series, but I’ve been told that its a tad bit slow to begin with. ~le sigh~ Hence why God inspired the idea of manga first ^_^
