Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles new movie

Take it from someone who saw a 30 minute clip real (my cousin is the CEO of the Ninja Turtles comics), this is going to be an AWESOME movie. And I don’t even like TMNT.

Re: I think Hollywood is out of ideas

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the new trek movie wasn’t going to be a revision of the original series, and I mentioned that I thought I had heard that it would be, well, here comes an article verifying what I’d heard and giving the actual name of the new movie, guess what it’s going to be? Well, I’ll tell you, it’s going to be called “Star Trek”, here’s the article…

i love remakes in general. the only problem is some people (ie - the majority of the movie watching public) are deadset on the original being the “only movie” that the “remake/retelling” that gets made years later gets pushed aside.

My problem with remakes is that I frequently think they’re pointless.

When it comes to remakes, I can go either way, but usually if they do it justice I’m down with it. But I saw this today:

and my problem here is it feels too soon. EFNY is 25 years+ old but the franchise still feels like a part of modern cinema, especially since Russell could still probably pull off another sequel or two himself.

Sequels that were better than the originals:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back!
(as i prepare to get stabbed) Matrix Revolutions
Oldboy
Once Upon a Time In Mexico
Saw III

and thats all i can think of.

Okay, I agree on Star Wars and POSSIBLY Matrix Revolutions, but I don’t think I ever saw the first one in its entirety anyway.

I though Oldboy was stand alone from the other films.
also, the whole point about making movies is to find creative ideas yourself, not “how the frak do we make this, ah screw it lets remake x and give it a bigger bugdet” no thats what made the orginals better, that like say the going to remake slapshot, and have in new rules hockey and the Hanson Brothers aren’t going to be deranged goons but fast skating scoring dynomos. No

*stab*

The rest of your movies I agree with, at least from the ones I’ve seen. Keep in mind, though, that sequels are very different from remakes, completely with their own reason why they should never be made. Sequels take the same characters and tells more stories with them, which is what a lot of audiences want (most of the time). The trouble is, the sequel has to be different enough from the original, and can’t rely on people’s fond memories of the original to make up for the flaws of the sequel, which is why a lot of sequels don’t do so well.

That’s really surprising. But when you get into video games turned into movies, that gets into another debate altogether. Aren’t the ‘Resident Evil’ movies considered to be the only good video game movies? And I still have faith that the Halo movie (whenever it comes out) has the potential to be pretty good.

And how can there be WoW movie, if the whole point is that each player has his own character? Unless it’ll turn into the D&D movie, and I think we all know how that turned out.

I heard Halo was scrapped as well, but then Microsoft picked it up with its own movie production studio, sort of like what Marvel comics did. We’ll probably hear lots more conflicting reports. As for WoW, I dunno what to say.

I though Oldboy was stand alone from the other films.

It is the second installment of Chan Wok Park’s “vengeance trilogy”, preceded by Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and followed by Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
