I think Hollywood is out of ideas
I know it’s been said so many times before, but here’s a look at some of what I’m hearing about either in the works or just around the corner
Star Trek the Movie 11 - New actors playing Kirk Spock and so onSpiderman 3 - I’m not going to comment on this, as it might be good, but don’t forget this franchise has been around as long as speed racer and has had so many incarnaations that I lost count years ago, in fact, the movie is not the only new Spiderman in the franchise, look to see a new animated series coming to Kids WB on the CW in the near future
I think there’s more, but it’s almost lunch time here, c’mon otaku… fill in the rest for me. I know you can do it.
Are you criticizing the new Star Trek movie? You had better not. First of all, it’s Star Trek, so of course it’s going to be awesome, and secondly, it isn’t confirmed that they’re going back in time with Kirk and the OS crew.
Spider-man 3 “might be good?” Did you see the 7.5 minute preview on NBC.com? Ok, it’s likely that you didn’t, but trust me when I say it was amazing. Spider-Man hasn’t let us down yet, and I don’t even like Marvel that much.
Finally, you might say that Hollywood is out of ideas, but that’s been true for a while, but on a more global scale. Since there are really only four plot lines you can tell when you boil a movie down to it’s most core plot, then of course many movies will start to look the same after a while. I’m not that’s what you were going for though.
Re: I think Hollywood is out of ideas
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the Geico Commecial Cavemen were set to get a series on ABC, but I’m hearing that idea wasn’t simple enough that even a caveman could do it.

Re: I think Hollywood is out of ideas
I must say I do think it’s lame the way our commercial society banks on the theory of “well, it worked once, so it will work 20 more times!” but sequels, trilogies, etc. aren’t always bad. Yes, often they bomb, but that’s no reason not to give them a chance JUST because a similar idea’s been done. Really, when you look at it everything has been done. There’s really only about 12 distinct stories in the world. There’s the classic “journey” story, or the “hero proves himself” story, or the “boy meets girl” story, etc. etc. Everything is copied of something else somewhere, its just the window dressing that changes. Now, if you see a trailer for a movie that is one in a series and it looks like crap, then yah, it probably will be.

I’ve heard the new trek movie will be with a new Kirk, Spock and so on. As far asd not wanting to comment on the spiderman movie it’s partly because I remember when a certain writer/producer used to come thru my lunch line at Wesleyan (and hangf out in the game room, did he ever go to classes?) and I don’t want to express a bias about the films he’s done

Re: I think Hollywood is out of ideas
I think they are all commies in hollywood, example, lets take something that was cool thirty years ago and is a cult classic and redo it, then the remake sucks, and the wonder why when their like hey it was exactly the same as before, just with a bigger budget,. so hollywood doesn’t get it as for turning things into cgi to make it seem different, thats not going to help, just annoy people who saw the orginals in the eighties and wonder why they’re not swearing or all the adult jokes are missing so the kids with the crappy remakes of classics can enjoy what they know(IE star wars, little kids DID NOT KNOW that Vader and Ankin were the same person, it was fair to us who knew the ending twenty plus years ago to suffer through three horrible movies).
well way to rant
anywho go see my other post about 300, go see it

I agree that for the most part, remakes are generally trash: Dukes of Hazzard, some superhero movies, Starsky and Hutch, etc. However, not all remakes are terrible, for example the new Doctor Who. I guess if the remake is handled well and the original source material may not be as well known, it could work. But Hollywood may not want to put in the effort.
And how does that make them supporters of collectivism and Marxism?

Re: I think Hollywood is out of ideas
i love remakes in general. the only problem is some people (ie - the majority of the movie watching public) are deadset on the original being the “only movie” that the “remake/retelling” that gets made years later gets pushed aside.
