Bringing some of mine for others

I gave it a try this year because I’ve had some great finds at thrift shops lately. I brought a card game I’d never even heard of (Instinct by the people who do the Magic game) and the Emporers Challenge. I’ll bring them again but I also forgot that I had another game about lost civilisations and it’s sort of an indiana jones sort of thing I think, never found anybody to play it with. and I made a major find the day after my return from the con. A complete in box (near as I can tell) Dragon Riders of Pern board game. It’s got one player rules so I’m going to give it a go when I have a free moment. My mum just cleaned out her board games and there where some unusual ones in there so I may have anywhere from 4-8 games to bring for you all. I can get a list of the ones I have so won’t bring redundant games. And who knows I may find more games between then and now.

Whoa, I very much might be tempted to play a round of the Dragon Riders of Pern game as I was a fan back in the day. Hopefully its not too long of a game tho as I’d have to attend to my usual staff duties <!—s:-\—>:-\\<!—s:-\—>

I have no idea how long play is. I’ll get to a trial game soon though and maybe once I square away my attendance to the coming con I’ll try to make one MAD. and bring the games for people to check out. That’s if I can get my life together and my finances in a good place.

Aww sorry to hear that. Good luck to ya. I had a lot of trouble in the earlier years of the con getting there reliably and such. Which is part of why I liked volunteering, because of the crash space available. Funny story, A few years ago I actually had to quit my job a week prior in order to attend because CTcon was running the same time as “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” (#5) was being released.

Re: Bringing some of mine for others

oh I’m sure I’ll find a way to make the con. I just may be unable to eat (restrictive diet and hard to find foods) and have no place to come back to. If it gets close to that I’ll stow all my belongings in storage and sleep in my car. I’ve faced similar struggles before but a major source of income is going bye-bye in january and before that happens I’ve got to find a way to pull in the equivilant amount ($880/month) to keep me afloat.

I can live in some amazing situations and survive off of increadibly little. Unfortunately that’s what I’m doing right now. So nOw I’ve got to flip things around a bit.

I did have a wacky idea to be a story teller (for kids), delivery librarian, board/card game person. The idea was that I would leave my contact with local hotels and when they had bussy nights or special orders I could be hired to share my expansive library, read to groups or play games. It would be kind of fun and be a unique and entertaining service to offer customers of a hotel. I just don’t know if it would work.

Speaking of hotels, you could always find a suite-style room with a kitchen for the duration of the con, but I’m sure you would need to split the cost. You have until August of next year, though. Good luck.

Found another game (actually one and a half) I got the base heroscape set… only to find out the goober that donated it kept the figures and donated the rest of the set.

But I also got the board game Hive. and the goober who donated it neglected to include the directions, but I found them online, and you can play an online version. I suck at it, but that might have something to do with a weak grasp of the movement rules.

I’m thinking I might just get the rules for Heroscape and make my own figures for now. Practice or test out the play. I’m not much of a miniatures combat gamer but it might be something to try.

You could always offer to run/teach people to play the game and we can put it on the convention schedule, then you’d definitely get people to play the game with =)

Re: Bringing some of mine for others

Still got the pern game and a better understanding of it. I’m shooting for the june MAD, as I got pretty sick the friday before this past MAD.

I’ll bring it to the con with me. I’ll have a table in AA and a few panels to take care of, but later in the evening I could break down my stuff a wee bit early and head over to the games room. To play some. Especially sunday evening as things die down I may just break down my stuff for the trip back up here and go to the gaming rooms.

I’m still not sure what panels I’ll be running. Yet to receive a reply.
